Miami Shores’ story begins in the early 1900s, when the area was a patchwork of agricultural enterprises, including pineapple plantations, grapefruit groves, and a starch mill. The arrival of the railroad transformed the region, paving the way for development. By the 1920s, the Shoreland Company, led by visionary real estate developers, envisioned Miami Shores as “America’s Mediterranean.” Their master plan included Mediterranean-style homes, a golf course, a yacht club, and even a causeway to Miami Beach.

However, the devastating 1926 hurricane and the Great Depression temporarily halted these grand plans. Despite these setbacks, the community persevered.
